A day out with our Richard

It was a warm and muggy day in That London when Richard Branson turned up unexpectedly at the office. Our campaign had worked!

“I really admire your commitment to championing entrepreneurship all over the UK,” he told us warmly, his eyes full of small business inspiration and his luxuriant locks blowing in the wind. “I think today we should go on an adventure and spread the power of small business further still.” He took the cape and put it on. “I’m very proud to be wearing this. Let’s go!”

Off we went to Tottenham Court Road tube, where his cape and celebrity caused quite the stir. But Rich kept it real, even when a gaggle of schoolgirls demanded to have a photo taken with him. He didn’t even mind standing on the tube. What a top guy.

We went all the way to Westminster to chill out and have a little sight-see. Rich was very taken with Westminster Abbey. “You forget how many great sights to see there are in London when you’re jetsetting constantly around the world!” he exclaimed. “Let’s get an ice cream from that stall over there and continue supporting small businesses!”

We dropped by the Houses of Parliament, where a policeman wouldn’t let us have our photos taken by the main gates. Fair play, Richard didn’t get stroppy and pull a “Do you know who I am?” Instead we went to a different part for a photograph. “It’s a shame all the politicians are protected by police and being chauffeured around in expensive cars – it would have been nice to have a natter about small business policy,” Richard mused sadly. “But hey! I’ve got a bright idea…”

So off we went to our final destination – BIS, the department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

“This place rocks!” said Richard excitedly. “This is a place that cares about the future of British small businesses!”

We hung out there for a while, just chilling out and taking in the atmosphere of business and ideas, until security started to look a bit annoyed at us and we decided to call it a day. But what a day!

“It’s hard to go anywhere in London, being me,” remarked Richard sadly after a group of tourists pointed excitedly at him. “But I’m glad we got to have a wander around the area of London most vital to small businesses – the place where the decisions are made.”

Richard came back to the office for a brownie and a cuppa, before jumping into his waiting limousine.

“Thanks for the cape!” he called from the car. “Keep up the good work!”

And then we woke up and realised that it was all a dream.
